Prevent emails from being marked as spam

Spam filters can sometimes mistakenly block legitimate emails. To ensure that emails are reliably delivered to your inbox, add the sender’s email address to your address book or safe senders list.

Below are step-by-step instructions for the most popular email providers.

Outlook.com (Microsoft 365 / Hotmail / Live / MSN)

Add sender to the Safe Senders list:

Right-click on the email in your inbox.
Navigate to ‘Junk’ and select ‘Never block sender’.

Mark an email as ‘not junk’:

Right-click on the email in your inbox.
Navigate to ‘Report’ and select ‘Not junk’.

Gmail

Add sender to your contacts:

Hover your cursor over the sender’s name in your inbox without clicking.
In the pop-up that appears, click the ‘Add to contacts’ icon in the top right corner.

Mark an email as important:

Click the importance marker (arrow icon) located just before the sender’s name in your inbox: ‘Click to teach Gmail that this conversation is important’.

Report an email as ‘not spam’:

Right-click on the email in your inbox.
Select ‘Not spam’.

Yahoo

Add sender to your contacts:

Right-click on the email in your inbox.
Select ‘Add sender to contacts’.

Report an email as ‘not spam’:

Right-click on the email in your inbox.
Select ‘Not spam’.

POP/IMAP mailbox via your internet provider or hosting provider

If you have a POP/IMAP mailbox through your internet provider or hosting service, you can add senders to a whitelist via their control panel.

Since spam is filtered on your email provider’s mail server, settings in your email program have no effect on this filtering. If necessary, please contact their helpdesk.

Exception: Only if a spam filter is also active on your computer, possibly as part of your anti-virus protection, it is useful to add a sender to the safe senders list in your email program, and mark an email as ‘not spam’ if wrongly marked as spam.
